Why I decided to become a software engineer.

Everyone begins their software engineering journey for different reasons. Some people want to change the world, others want to learn something new, or even to try a new career path. My desire to become a software engineer stemmed largely from my love and appreciation for languages. They are the building blocks of how we communicate and each language possesses its own unique beauty. At their most elegant, they can convey big ideas, simply.

I have always had an appreciation for and a basic understanding of code, but my superficial knowledge has always left me wanting and desiring something more. I knew from the moment I found Flatiron that this was the right program for me. The instructors and instructional program were designed not only to make me proficient, but also appreciate of what it means to write good code.

Maybe one day I will write that world changing algorithm, or create Richard Hendrick’s “new internet”, but for now I’m going to take it one day at a time as a whole new world has suddenly availed itself to me.
